Remove a plain background

Where this remover works well
Use a photograph of a product against an even wall, a graphic on a solid field, or a simple icon whose surrounding color is distinct from the subject. Pick the background in the preview and start with a modest tolerance. The tool follows matching pixels connected to the outside of the image. An isolated area with a similar color inside the subject should usually stay in place.
The output is a PNG with transparent pixels. Put it over a contrasting color to inspect remaining halos or missing subject areas. The original JPG, PNG or WebP stays on your device, so you can try another tolerance without destroying it.
Limits to know before using it
This is color selection, not AI person segmentation. A patterned wall, soft shadow, glass, hair or white clothing against a white background may produce incomplete edges or remove part of the subject. High tolerance can spill across similar colors; low tolerance may leave a fringe. For intricate subjects, use an editor with a manual mask.
Files are limited to 15 MB and 12 megapixels to protect browser memory. Processing the pixel map may pause on an older phone. The image is decoded and exported entirely in this tab; the source is not uploaded to our application server. Transparent PNG outputs can be larger than the original JPEG and may lose embedded metadata.
How to get a cleaner edge
- Select an image with a background touching at least one outside edge.
- Click a representative point in that background. Try a shadow or corner separately if the first sample does not match.
- Move the tolerance a little at a time and process again from the original pixels. Inspect the checkerboard preview and downloaded PNG at full size.
For a different problem, Crop Image removes unwanted edges outright, while Convert to PNG preserves existing transparency without trying to identify a background.

Limits and privacy
This color based tool cannot separate detailed hair, transparent subjects or complex scenery like a trained segmentation model.
The workspace works locally in your browser; selected source images are not sent to this site's application server. Some features load third-party code from a CDN, and large images may run out of device memory. Keep a backup of your original.

Will this handle hair or a busy scene?
No. Similar colors in the subject can disappear, while fine edges and shadows may remain. A mask editor is better for detailed subjects.
Does it change my source file?
No. The browser creates a separate result for download. Keep the original if you may need another adjustment.
